HID Global PACS Innovation, the Physical Access Control applied-research group of HID Global, is looking for a Principal Engineer to help drive, design, develop and innovate in the fields that touch multiple disciplines of software engineering.

The PACS Innovation applied-research group is responsible for absorbing and transposing research and the latest technologies within demonstrable advanced proof-of-concepts that will be the basis for next generation products. Challenges such as understanding person intent in unconstrained environment, anomaly detection, indoor localization, smart-city connectivity, smart-building optimization, and continuous contextual-and-temporal authentication are some of the topics on our todo list.

While being a part of, and benefiting from, a larger organization, the HID Global PACS Innovation group is assuming a startup execution environment, comprised of experts in at-scale backend/frontend, hardware/software embedded systems, virtual machines, security and advanced cryptography, mobile development, and radio communication.

The successful candidate will be an individual contributor who is not afraid of learning new software stacks irrespective of the platform they run on. He/She must be able to switch domains (embedded to servers to front end) easily and is willing to take deep dive into new domains. He/She should be an ardent self-learner, well versed in state of art in software engineering and passionate about sharing knowledge with others.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze problems and design potential solutions.
  • Contribute to ideation.
  • Perform design reviews.
  • Generate development tasks according to design.
  • Handle assigned code development tasks.
  • Perform code reviews.
  • Actively participate and contribute to internal developer community education.
  • Work with IP department to generate and/or review patent applications.

  • One or more of the following: (Embedded) Linux Kernel, Android (on custom built devices) OS, Firmware development on resource constrained devices.
  • Intermediate practical experience with general cryptography (AES, RSA, ECC) is expected.
  • Experience with general and IoT protocols such as TLS, WebSockets, MQTT is required.
  • Strong experience desired with one or more of following programming languages: C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, GoLang.
  • Minimum object oriented programming and/or functional programming skills.

Nice to have

  • Has worked on Single Board computers such as RaspberryPi, BeagleBone, Intel Edison etc.
  • Familiarity with Deep Neural Networks and associated software technology stacks (Tensorflow, Pytorch, etc).
  • Working knowledge of wireless stacks - Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC, ZigBee.
  • Familiarity with I2C, SPI, UART drivers.
  • Experience with Computer Vision libraries such as OpenCV and/or Dlib.
  • DevOps experience - Ansible, Chef etc…
  • Experience with cloud providers - AWS/Azure/GCP.
  • Mobile application development

Education and/or Experience          

  • BS or MS in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent education plus relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of practical experience with C and/or C++ is mandatory.

Language Skills                   

  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.              

Computer Skills     

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiar with operating systems, such as Windows, etc.
